Evening Competitive and High Performance Information Session

Olympium Synchro will be hosting an information session on on the High Performance and Evening Competitive programs in Room 13 (Basement level) at the Olympium on Monday February 14th at 6.30pm.  For details and contact information, please click here.

There will also be an information night at Hollycrest Middle School for those considering the High Performance program on Tuesday, March 1st at 7pm. While the OSSC will assist as much as possible with the application to Hollycrest acceptance into the school is determined by the school not the OSSC.  Please click here for a link to the High Performer Program at Hollycrest.

Hollycrest High Performer Program – Application Period Opening Soon

 Hollycrest Junior Middle School will begin accepting applications to the High Performer Program this month.  Our coaches are finalizing recommendations for the 2011/12 season which will be distributed soon to our Recreational and Evening athletes.
 
For those families considering the program, the Toronto District School Board has produced a four-part video series on the program available on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/user/TDSBOfficial#p/u/54/TrmwKCxj-YU.  General Information about the program can be found on the School Board’s website at http://www.tdsb.on.ca/about_us/media_room/room.asp?show=allNews&view=detailed&self=19421.  OSSC has had athletes participating in the HP program since it’s inception.  Our athletes have achieved amazing success academically.  Many have gone on to successful university careers at the school of their choice supported by academic scholarships!

New for 2011: Seminar Series for Athletes and Families

New for 2011, Olympium Synchro is delighted to present our 2011 Seminar Series for Athletes and Families which will be held at the Olympium on Club Training Days.

Our Information Session Coordinator, Judith Wong-Lee, has worked closely with the Highpoint Wellness Centre to prepare a series of  seminars focused on topics such as strength, power, flexibility, endurance, nutrition, attitude, perspective, and performance.  Seminar dates and topics are as follows:

  • Saturday January 29th at 2:45pm – Injury Prevention: Common Injuries in Synchro Swimming
  • Saturday February 26th at 2:45pm – Importance of Core Strength and Flexibility
  • Saturday March 26th at 1:30pm – Nutrition: The Power of Food – for Supporting an Elite Athlete
  • Saturday March 26th at 2:45pm – Nutrition: The Power of Food – Discussion with the Athletes
  • Saturday May 28th at 1:30pm – Stress Resilience/Life Work Balance for Families of Athletes
  • Saturday May 28th at 1:30pm – Mind over Matter

Each seminar is designed for the audience targeted for that particular  session. The Nutrition and Mind over Matter seminars are appropriate for age 10-18.  Parents are welcome to all sessions.  For details of the sessions click here.

Synchro Summer Camp – Save the Dates!

It may be very snowy out there, but before you know it you will be planning for summer vacation.  Synchro camp dates are already set, so keep your calendar open!

Camp dates are as follows; more information  to follow.

  • July 18-22, 2011 Intro to Synchro (Recreational) and Synchronized Swimming (Provincial Competitive and those intending to compete)
  • July 25-29, 2011 Intro to Synchro (Recreational) and Synchronized Swimming (Provincial Competitive and those intending to compete)
  • August 15-19, 2011 Intro to Synchro (Recreational) and Synchronized Swimming (Provincial Competitive and those intending to compete)
  • August 22-26, 2011 Intro to Synchro (Recreational) and Synchronized Swimming (Provincial Competitive and those intending to compete)AND High Performance (National Competitive: Jr Fina and Age 13-15 FINA)

2010-2011 Quest for Gold Athlete Assistance Program Ontario Card Nominations Announced!

Olympium Synchro joins Synchro Swim Ontario in thanking and congratulating all the talented athletes who were nominated for Ontario Cards under the 2010-2011 Quest for Gold Ontario Athlete Assistance Program (OAAP). Head Coach Kerri Morgan, on behalf of OSSC, is thrilled that our athletes, Natalie Mintz and Rachel Demmers, are among the nominees.

Nominated athletes were selected using the Sport Specific Selection Criteria developed by Synchro Swim Ontario, approved by its Board of Directors and applied by the Synchro Swim Ontario Quest for Gold Athlete Selection Committee.  Join Coach Kerri in extending our congratulations to Natalie and Rachel on their successful performances, and their nomination for Quest for Gold – OAAP funding.  Full details of the nominees and the selection criteria are available at www.synchroontario.com.
