Fundraising Commitments Explained

The Olympium Synchronized Swimming Club is a non-profit organization providing elite level coaching and training for athletes from 6 to 20 years of age. We are committed to keeping registration and routine costs as low as possible for our families and therefore rely on fundraising as an integral component of our program.

Throughout the year, the OSSC runs various fundraising events, which requires mandatory participation. The following is a list of our proposed fundraising events for the 2010-2011 season:

Tag days:  Day athletes contribute 8 hours of tagging over the course of a weekend.  Evening athletes contribute 4 hours of tagging over the course of a weekend.  They are assigned locations and times by the Tag Day Coordinator.  Number of tags days for the 2010- 2011 season has yet to be determined (2 minimum).

Gift Cards: Each member family purchases a minimum monthly amount of $300.00 (Evening) or $600.00 (Day) which was returned in the form of gift cards from Loblaw. These cards may be used at any of the Loblaw family of stores towards the purchase of any store item (i.e. non-inclusive of “in-store shopettes” such as LCBO’s etc) and do not require any additional outlay of cash by the member family.  There is a revenue return at a rate of 5% which goes directly to OSSC.   This activity is coordinated by the volunteer position of the Loblaws Co-ordinator.  Member families who purchase additional gift cards above the  monthly minimum points.  This fundraiser is our easiest and least intrusive fundraiser and provides a substantial influx of funds for the OSSC.

Hosted Meets – OSSC hosted swim meets require mandatory participation from all the families.  OSSC will be hosting the OAGSSC (formerly Tiers) in May 2011.  Hours volunteered above the minimum participation will be eligible for points at a rate of 5 points per hour.  This is a large meet and there will be many opportunities for volunteer positions.

Additional Fundraising - From time to time, additional fundraising efforts may be required.  The Board is committed to consulting with the membership should this be the case.  We recognize the fine balance that must be maintained between acquiring fees, requesting volunteer time and participation in fundraising activities.
