The Point System
OSSC runs on the power of volunteers. As a member of OSSC you will be required to volunteer your time. The club has developed a point system to account for volunteer participation, with a required number of points to be met by each family, based on the category of the athlete. The point system is designed to reinforce the importance of volunteer activities and ensure fairness in sharing the responsibilities among members. Points can be earned by all family members.
The number of points you are required to earn will be communicated to you at the beginning of the season (in the registration package). The point requirements for families registered in the Evening Competitive Program is 150 points. The point requirements for families registered in the Day Competitive Program is 300 points. You are required to submit two (2) post-dated cheques for the assessed dollar value of your points upon registration.
If a family does not meet 50% of their total commitment by February and 100% by May 31st, their fine will be calculated on a pro-rated basis. Members who are having difficulty accumulating the required number of points should contact the point coordinator for suggestions. Every effort will be made to facilitate opportunities to earn points.
Whenever required for competitions hosted by OSSC, each family of a competitive athlete must sign up and cover volunteer shifts in preparation for, or during the competition weekend. The minimum number of hours required per family will be set by the meet manager. Volunteering at Meets does not count towards points. All family members and friends can cover meet obligations. Hours volunteered for meets above the required number are credited at an agreed rate as points. Failure to meet the volunteer hours requirements will result in a penalty of the equivalent amount of points being added to the families total.
Volunteer Opportunities
The Vice-President of Administration maintains a current list of the point values of various jobs in the club. The point values and jobs may change, from time to time, as necessitated by the evolving needs of OSSC. In addition to the coordinator roles, there are opportunities to work at volunteer jobs, such as assisting at the Winter Water Show, Gala, Tag Days, etc at a rate of 5 points per hour. If you identify a project that should be done, discuss the project with the Point System Coordinator who will confirm with the Board the point value of your project.
