Board members use their knowledge and experience to represent the best interests of OSSC at all times. We are appealing to members of our club, with a variety of skills and backgrounds that will continue to build and strengthen our organizational capacity. Experience and particular skills sought include: human resources, finance, strategic planning, not-for-profit governance, marketing, technology and managing volunteers. An in-depth knowledge of the sport of synchronized swimming is of value, but not necessary. The individuals on the Board should be there because they want to make a difference and help the club achieve its goals.

In submitting applications, it is important to note that members of the Board of Directors are expected to attend all Board meetings and special meetings as scheduled either in person or by conference call. Typically, the meetings include monthly face-to-face meetings over the summer months, as well as monthly meetings during the September to May time period. Board members may be expected to attend Synchro Ontario events as representatives of the club and the end of season AGM. Directors are also potentially appointed to chair or participate on Board Standing Committees, where their particular skill set is identified as necessary.

Questions from interested candidates are welcome and confidential.

If you are interested in being part of the OSSC Board, please submit the required Nomination Form and Nominee profile (see attached) by May 26, 2017 via email to: Susan St-Pierre, Secretary of the Board susanstp.synchro@gmail.com

March Athlete of the Month – Evening – Kiana Amoroso

Kiana_Amoroso1Kiana, age 10, started synchro at age 8 with York Synchro Club’s recreational program with her sister Zenya. Then she came to OSSC and swam one year in the 10 & Under pre-provincial level and now is on the 11-12 provincial team. She loves that synchro is fun and like “dancing in the water.” Outside of synchro, she really enjoys drawing.

Coach Anne-Sophie says, “Kiana is a ray of sunshine. Always smiling, positive, supportive of her teammates and dedicated to her training. Since September, she has improved tremendously on a variety of skills and with all her efforts, her transition to the provincial level has been seamless. She is very strong in routine with excellent knowledge of counts and patterns, her level of fitness has reached new heights, and her figures scores are continually increasing. She far exceeded my expectations at the Regionals in March with a solid performance in the figure meet. Kiana has a very soft demeanor, wonderful people’s skills and a superb work ethic. It’s an absolute pleasure to be her coach this year. I know her teammates are just as fond of her as I am.”

March Athlete of the Month – Morning – Emma Fox

Emma, age 16, started synchro at age 7 at the Burlington Synchronized Swimming Club, spent one year in recreational, two years provincial and then moved to national at age 10, continuing until she moved to OSSC at age 13 for one year. Then she swam at the Regional Training Centre for a year before joining the joint club team of BOSSC (Burlington Olympium Synchronized Swimming Club.) Her goals are to qualify for the Junior National Team or Provincial Team, and after that, qualify for the Senior National Team. Emma says, “what I love about the sport is that it has taught me so many important life skills for the future. My coaches have taught me things like working hard, having a positive attitude, working as part of a team, and most importantly, being respectful.” Outside of synchro Emma enjoys traveling with her family.

Her coach, Kerri Morgan, sited three things about Emma, her effort, her leadership and some outstanding results. At the Canadian Qualifier in Quebec City, a nation-wide event, Emma placed 10th in Junior figures, 13th in Junior duet, 7th in Junior team and 4th in Senior Team. Coach Kerri says, “the best way to describe Emma is coachable! She takes corrections well, works hard, has a great sense of humour, a fabulous laugh and she is a great leader to both her teammates and to younger club mates.”
