2017-18 Novice Competitive Programs

NOVICE 8 and Under (swimmers in grades 1&2)

Novice Synchronized Swimming starts mid September through May, which allows swimmers to explore the competitive side of synchro while improving their swimming abilities, comfort in the water and synchro fundamentals.

Novice athletes aged 8 & under swim twice a week for 1.5 hours each time for a total of 3 hours. Swimmers must be assessed by the evening program coordinator and recommended for the program. This program is ideally suited for swimmers who have attended our Intro to Synchro or similar program, although swimmers new to synchro may be accepted based on swimming ability and/or other sports experience.

The schedule for this program is as follows:

  • Thursdays 6:00pm-7:30pm – Carleton Village 315 Osler St. Toronto (NOTE: Confirmed Aug 2017 – will be at Carleton Village NOT Bishop Marrocco Pool))
  • Saturdays 9:00am-10:30am – Downsview Secondary School, 7 Hawksdale Rd, North York, Ontario, M3K 1W3

Swimmers learn a team routine for presentation in two Club Watershows (December and May.) and compete in the following meets:

  • Recreational Extravaganza – late Feb/early March Burlington
  • Novice Regionals – April
  • Novice Championships – May (NOTE: Meets take place on a single day and are generally held in the Toronto area or within a two hour driving distance. )

Additional Notes:

We invite our Novice athletes to club events and fundraising events but participation is not mandatory. A schedule of club events will be provided in the fall. Our novice program is a competitive program and a team sport so attendance and punctuality at all practices is crucial to the success of the program. A mandatory parent meeting will be held at the beginning of the program to review details of the program for the season.
Our Novice program does not run over the Christmas holidays or March Break. Practices are cancelled on statutory holidays. There may be occasional pool bumps where we may need to relocate a practice due to the facility issues or unforeseen events. We will keep you informed as they come up.

Equipment costs:

Practice Equipment

  • One piece practice suit (can purchase on own)
  • Bathing Cap (can purchase on own)
  • Goggles (can purchase on own or can be purchased at practice for $16)
  • Nose plug (can purchase on own or can be purchased at practice for $5)

Competition Equipment

  • Club t-shirt $20
  • Club bathing cap $8-$13
  • Black bathing suit $55
  • White bathing cap $2-$6
  • Routine bathing suit (design to be determined by coach. Approximate cost $60-100)

NOVICE 9-10 (includes swimmers in grades 3&4)

Novice Synchronized Swimming starts mid September through May, which allows swimmers to explore the competitive side of synchro while improving their swimming abilities, comfort in the water and synchro fundamentals. Novice athletes aged 9-10 swim twice a week for 1.75 hours each time for a total of 3.5 hours. Swimmers must be assessed by an Olympium Synchro coach and recommended for the program. This program is ideally suited for swimmers who have attended an Intro to Synchro class or similar program. Swimmers new to synchro may be accepted based on swimming ability and/or other sports experience.   • Wednesdays 6-7:45 at Etobicoke Olympium
  • Saturdays 10:30-12:15 at Downsview Secondary School, 7 Hawksdale Rd, North York, Ontario, M3K 1W3
